What the distances mean, and what they do not
Distances here are straight lines, measured between two points. A centre 300 m away across the Kallang River or an expressway can be a twenty-minute walk, which is why the walking figures are ranges rather than single numbers and why nothing on this page claims to be a route.
A postal code is also one point for a whole building. In the HDB estates that is usually a single block and the distance is good to a few metres; in a large mall or a long block it can be out by the length of the building. Good enough for “which centre is nearest”, not good enough for “which door is closest”.
Nine of the 132 centres here are absent from the national hawker-centre dataset, including Changi Village, Haig Road and Boon Lay Place. Those carry a name derived from their address and no cleaning schedule, because none is published for them — which is not the same as never closing. See how this is put together.
